Safehaven

Last Saturday evening saw the start of our Safehaven project for the homeless, run in St Peter's church hall in partnership with two other local churches. 25 guests came for Shepherd's Pie and a warm welcome and were served by more than 20 people from the church, a mixture of students, single, married, parents, retired. Such has been the enthusiasm for this initiative from members of the church that we had way more volunteers than we actually needed - but that might be as well: the local police sergeant said there'd be two or three times more guests next week as word spreads among the street community.
