The Second Sunday
Week two was always going to be interesting. Sure, we had over 500 through the doors the first week, for the re-opening services, but we weren't kidding ourselves: lots of friends were supporting us from London, and clearly they weren't going to come back every week! So it was immensely encouraging to see so many once again, including loads of people for the first time. In the evening, we asked for a show of hands, and discovered that we had a lot more students than the first week.
The changes we made in the morning, to ease the pressure on space for the children's church, seemed to work. Once again we had people signing up for Alpha (which begins on Wednesday), and for one or other of our teams. The evening was also memorable because of the lighting failure we had! A fuse went in the main hall before the service, plunging the whole hall and café into darkness. Fortunately there were loads of candles around and we got going in the church. Everything worked fine right up until the end when we lost power there too (well, someone was trying to fix the fuse…) All adds to the sense of adventure.
