John Hannah was born on 16\/07\/1818 to John D. Hannah<\/a> (1792 \u2013 1867) and his wife Jane Capavor (1791 \u2013 1870). He was baptised on 17\/07\/1818 in London.<\/p>\n

He married Ann Sophia Gregory (1818 \u2013 1876) on 05\/07\/1843 in Nottingham. They had 2 children, John Julius Hannah and Carlotte Mary Hannah.<\/p>\n

He is the grandfather of William Maitland Julius Hannah<\/a>, who died in South Aftrica and is commemorated in St. Peter’s Church on two Memorial Plaques.<\/p>\n

John Hannah died in Brighton on 01\/06\/1888.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”8160″ img_size=”large” alignment=”center” css=””][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text css=””]<\/p>\n

In the parochial cemetery lies all that can die of the Venerable JOHN HANNAH D.C.L.Oxon., fellow of Lincoln College, Oxford 1840 – 1844, chaplain of Coombe Longa, Oxon. 1843 – 1845, rector of the Edinburgh Academy 1847 – 1854, warden of Trinity College, Glenalmond, and Pantonian Professor of Theology 1854 – 1870, Bampton Lecturer 1863, Vicar of Brighton and Rector of West Blatchington 1870 – 1887, Prebendary of Sidlesham in Chichester Cathedral 1874 – 1888, Archdeacon of Lewes 1876 – 1888.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Born at Lincoln July 16th<\/sup> 1818,\u00a0died at the vicarage Brighton June 1st<\/sup> 1888.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

He divided the parish of Brighton into ecclesiastical districts, making each district church free and unappropriated for ever. He transferred the parochial rights of the parish of Brighton from the old church of St Nicholas to this building, which he greatly beautified and improved.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

This commemorative tablet was placed here by his only son, who succeeded him as Vicar of Brighton.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
