Tackling Mental Health Together

 

 

In these times of COVID 19 we want to continue to support one another in our well being and mental health. 

We recognise the challenge of the present circumstances, so below are some tips from the Bible which help with our mental health, information on joining the course Tackling Anxiety Together which begins online on 20th April and some helpful resources.

Be Prayerful

Philippians 4:6-9 “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy-think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” 

The Bible tells us that we can hand over our worries and burdens to God in prayer and we can fill our minds with the positive and good things in this life. 

Remembering that we are not on our own in this life because we have a God who loves and cares for us, can soothe our anxious minds and bring us peace. When we choose to think good thoughts, rather than dwell on the negative, we strengthen ourselves which helps us feel more equipped to meet life’s challenges.

Be Present

Matthew 6:31-34 “So don’t worry about these things, saying, ‘What will we eat? What will we drink? What will we wear?’ These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” 

Jesus himself tells us to take one day at a time. We are to seek God out in each day. That's how we are designed to live and that’s one of the ways we keep our minds at peace. We often feel stressed when we imagine what could go wrong in the future. However, usually almost everything that we worry about either doesn’t happen or we find we are given the strength to deal with the challenges we face.

Be Connected

Hebrews 10:24-25 ”Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another” 

The Bible tells us to encourage and support one another because we are a family and so we must try, even in these times of social distancing, to remain part of a community. 

Whether we are extroverts or introverts we are made to be in relationship with one another so that we can be encouraged and be an encouragement. Also, if we feel overwhelmed it is important to be able to talk over our worries with someone who will listen. Often someone else is able to give us the perspective and wisdom we need when we feel we are not coping. Also, just knowing we are loved and accepted leads to a sense of well-being.
