Charles Campion

Charles Campion was born on the 18. December 1876 in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, as the 5th child of Colonel William Henry Campion and his wife Gertrude Brand. He was baptised in Hurstpierpoint on 11/01/1877 .

After his education at Eaton, he became part of the Ceylon Mounted Infantry as a trooper, then transferred to Brigadier General Broodwood’s column. After that, he moved to Pretoria, serving as Superintendent of the police, before joining the Imperial Yeomanry as Lieutenant.

He died on May 29th 1901 at the age of only 24, at Vlakfontein, S. Africa, which is known for a daring guerilla force attack against British forces. He is buried in Krugersdorp, Gauteng, South Africa.
