About St Peter’s
Our Brighton adventure began in 2009.
St Peter’s has been part of Brighton’s story for over 200 years — and there’s still plenty more to tell.
Around 20 years ago, the church had fallen on hard times. The building was in a sorry state, the congregation had dwindled to a handful, and closure looked inevitable. But instead of giving up, a small, brave team from HTB in London moved to Brighton to reopen the doors and rebuild a community from the ground up.
Since then, we’ve seen God do remarkable things.
Every week, those who are most disadvantaged in our city are welcomed into our Safehaven drop-ins — fed, loved and valued. We gather on Sundays for worship, teaching and ministry, and meet through the week in small groups across the city. Every year, hundreds of people explore faith in Jesus through our Alpha courses.
There’s space here for young and old and everyone in between. People from all walks of life are finding Jesus, finding life, and finding a home. We’d love for you to find yours too.
Our Vision
Love God with passion, love people on purpose.
We’re part of something bigger than Brighton. Our vision is to play our part in the evangelisation of the nation, the revitalisation of the church, and the transformation of society — all in Jesus’ name.
At the heart of it is something Jesus said in Matthew 22:37 –
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
We sum that up as: love God with passion, love people on purpose. Everything we do flows from that.
In practice, it looks like this: gathering on Sundays for worship, teaching and the power of the Holy Spirit; building real friendships in midweek home groups where we read the Bible and pray for each other; inviting friends and neighbours into relationship with Jesus through Alpha; and serving those most at need through Safehaven.
We’ve also been part of ‘planting’ churches — from Brighton & Hove to Portsmouth and even South Africa. We want to keep going.
There are lots of ways to be involved. Our prayer is that you’ll discover what it means to love God with a passion — and love people on purpose.
