The Fight to Save the Church
The Fight to Save the Church
In 2007, St Peter’s faced imminent closure. The church building had fallen into (expensive) disrepair, and the congregation had dwindled.
However, the local community, The Argus and a committed group of congregants successfully campaigned to save the church, preserving the building for future generations to enjoy.
Public Protest against Church Closure
“I cannot believe they are even contemplating demolishing this church, it would be an absolute travesty! It just beggars belief that preserving every bit of British heritage is not a number one priority. Have we learnt nothing from the past, just look around at the modern eyesores from today’s ‘architects’ I rest my case!”
