The Peter Window

The Peter window is situated on the north side of the tower. It is a Kempe window and was manufactured in 1898.
This stained glass window is very difficult to reach at the moment because of the scaffolding and the renovation activities.
This window features Peter. He is depicted with halo. A banner is floating around his head which reads:
S Petrus princeps apostoloru S Peter the foremost among the apostles
He has an open book in his hand. Because of the scaffolding and the lack of light it is difficult to discern all the letters. What can be seen under the present
circumstances reads as follows:
Simon Petrus servu & Apostolu Jesus X Simon Peter, servant and apostle of Jesus Christ
Next to his leg, a model of St. Peter’s Church can be seen. A banner is floating around its base which reads:
Ecclesia Christi
The dedicational text for the Peter window reads:
Arthur Loader, churchwarden
of Brighton 1891 – 1895.
Erected by his friends.
Born October 1st 1839.
Died April 4th 1895.

Most of the stained glass windows in St. Peter's Church have dedicational texts. We have tried to trace the people who are being commemorated and to briefly tell their stories.
Three Gospel Stories
The Three Gospel Stories window was manufactured by Kempe in 1882 and it consists of three lights. Each light tells a different story.
Three NT Stories
The 'Three NT Stories' window was manufactured by Kempe in 1882. Every light is dedicated to a different person.
Mary and John
The first two lights of the Mary and John window were designed by C E Kempe & Co Ltd. in 1925 and 1933, the third light by an unknown artist.
The Children Window
The Children Window is situated on the west side of St. Peter's Church Brighton. It is a Kempe window and was manufactured in 1910.
The North Window
The North Window of St. Peter's Church Brighton is situated on the actual north side of the church (the liturgical east side). It was manufactured by Kempe in 1906.
The Ruth Window
The Ruth Window is situated on the west side of St. Peter's church. It was designed by Hugh Ray Easton in 1936.
Fishers of Men
The 'Fishers of Men' window is situated on the west side of St. Peter's church. It is a Kempe window and was manufactured 1907.
The Martyrs Window
The Martyrs Window is situated at the west side of St. Peter's church. It is a Kempe window and was manufactured 1901.
Bishops and Apostle
The 'Bishops and Apostle' window can be found in the side-hall of St. Peter's church. It was created by Arthur Joseph Dix.
Ten Small Clerestory Windows
The 'Ten Small Clerestory Windows' can be found on the east and west side of the church. They are from the workshop of William Collins (1834).
