John Leonhard Brigden

John Leonhard Brigden (spelled Leonhardt on the monument) was born on April 30th 1814 to John Brigden (1783 – 1833) and his wife Caroline Martha Leonhard (1789 – 1862). He was baptised on 12/06/1814 in St. Nicholas Church Brighton.
In 1845 he married Mary Murray (1824-1886) and they had eight children.
In the 1861 census he is listed as a coach maker. The 1881 census mentions him as employing 30 men and 10 boys. Furthermore he served as mayor of Brighton for four terms.
He died 06/12/1903 and is buried in the St. Nicholas of Myra Churchyard in Brighton.

His son William Henry Brigden married Charlotte Elizabeth Maynard on 27/07/1876, and the wedding took place in St. Peter’s Church.
