What is Baptism?
Baptism is a public confession of your decision to follow Jesus, it is the next step after salvation when you made the decision to give your life to Jesus. Baptism is a symbol of us uniting in the death and the resurrection of Jesus. During your baptism you are immersed under water, to symbolise the burial of your ‘old life’ and being raised in your ‘new life’.
Babies can take part in the baptism by having their heads sprinkled with water while young people and adults will be immersed in water.

What is Confirmation?
Confirmation means ‘with strengthening’ and the special service gives everyone a chance to strengthen their faith. Confirmation is the next step after your baptism, to seal the promises that you made to follow Jesus. If you were baptised at as a child, your guardians made these promises on your behalf. As a young person or adult, it’s a chance to reaffirm these promises since your baptism. Confirmation is an opportunity to be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit as we ask to receive and as the Bishop lays hands on us .
For the congregation it strengthens us as we see others affirm the faith we share. It is a reminder that we are part of Jesus’ global and historic church -the laying on of hands to be strengthened in our faith is seen in the book of Acts, and is something the church has done through the ages.
