Spear

We believe young people can overcome whatever barriers they face.

Spear Brighton is for 16 to 24-year-olds from disadvantaged backgrounds not in education, employment or training (NEET).

We help disadvantaged young people overcome their challenges and build vital skills for their career. Through our coaching programme, young people become fully prepared for the workplace and committed to long-term employment.

The Spear Programme began fifteen years ago in London in response to the growing need for support for young people. Spear Brighton was launched in 2018 and is the first Spear programme outside London.

We work with up to 90 young people each year and we have a high success rate: three out of four young people completing the Spear Programme not only enter employment, training or further education but are still there a year later.

“For the first time, I felt that someone believed I could do something with my life” – Hasfo, Spear Graduate

How it works

Coaching
We offer a 6-week coaching programme run by three experienced coaches.

Practical training
During the programme, young people learn skills such as writing a good CV and interview  technique

Ongoing support
Each trainee is supported for a year after the course finishes to help them find a job and succeed in work.
