an art exhibition that invites our community to reimagine and reconnect with this iconic building
Drawing on contributions from a wide range of individuals — from children and adults involved in St Peter’s activities such as Kids and Safehaven, to artists within our Wonder Collective — the exhibition reflects a diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. It seeks to reawaken a sense of awe at St Peter’s, encouraging visitors to see beyond the stones to the life and community they represent.
On 8th May 2024, St Peter’s Church commemorated the 200th anniversary of the laying of its foundation stone. As part of a year of celebratory events, Seeing Beyond the Stones showcases original artwork created by members of the local community in response to the building’s architecture, history, and place within Brighton.
In celebrating this significant milestone, Seeing Beyond the Stones affirms the enduring role of St Peter’s Church not only as a historic landmark but as a vibrant part of Brighton’s past, present, and future.
